This experiential class provides an initial exploration of mindfulness. Students will learn the principles of practice, develop their own meditation practice, and apply skills to daily life. Students will learn strategies to skillfully work with thoughts, emotions, and sensations while developing their capacity to enhance mind-body awareness of present-moment experience. Evidence-based mindfulness practices in psychology will be addressed. The psychological principles of attending and processing, the neurobiology of mindfulness, and the cognitive and emotional benefits of mindfulness practices will be explored. Research about mindfulness for self-regulation, anxiety, depression, & self-care will be addressed. This course is designed for beginners and suitable for those with experience who want to refine their practice.
